Independence Day, also called Fourth of July or July 4th, in the United States, the annual celebration of nationhood. It commemorates the passage of the Declaration of Independence by the Continental Congress on July 4, 1776. Independence Day is celebrated on Monday, July 4, 2022 in the United States.

One of the greatest misconceptions of the 4th of July lies in the name and date. It is widely believed that America declared their independence from Britain on July 4, 1776. However, the official vote actually took place two days before and the “Declaration” was published in papers on July 4.

Thomas Jefferson was the main author of the Declaration of Independence and John Hancock was the first person to sign the Declaration of Independence. The 'Pennsylvania Evening Post' was the first newspaper to print the Declaration.

Bastille day is formally called Fête nationale française The French National Day is the anniversary of the Storming of the Bastille on 14 July 1789 a major event of the French Revolution. Bastille Day features the oldest and largest regular military parade in Western Europe

In Pondicherry, a former French colony in India, Bastille Day is annually observed with tremendous fanfare. [On the night before Bastille Day, retired soldiers march and commemorate the occasion while playing the national anthems of India and France in memory of the French troops who lost their lives in the fights. French and Indian flags fly next to one another throughout the festival, illustrating the blending of cultures and histories.

Can’t get to France on Bastille Day? Not a problem. People all over the world honor and embrace the holiday. In eastern India, the scenic Puducherry district was under French rule as recently as 1954. Every July 14, fireworks go off in celebration and a local band usually plays both the French and Indian national anthems
